- ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪SportsMED is following the broad pattern in healthcare of providers putting increased pressure on their patients to pay a certain portion of their balance at the time of service, without any allowance for a more traditional payment plan. I asked, and then appealed as far as I could, that the provider allow me to establish a payment plan, but their refusal was absolute. I am genuinely sympathetic with a medical provider's interest in getting paid; they can't not get paid and remain in business, but when this results in the elimination of what has been the common, traditional availability of payment plans, the result is a stressful patient experience. (I will note also that the practice of TOC, the other major orthopedic provider in the Madison area, appears identical to that of SportsMED.)January 07, 2017by Andrew Harrison
